Yet another shakeup in the federal government as the Speaker of the House is voted out. The media says we are in chaos? But are we?

We are now in the “sausage-making.” What is that? The saying is, you never want to know what goes on or in the process of sausage making. That has been applied to politics. And sausage making, is not uncommon. It is certainly now in the works.

When Republican Kevin McCarthy was voted out, it marked the first time this has happened in our nation’s history. Many of us don’t realize the extreme power behind the Speaker’s position. Not only should we all be praying for who will be the next to fill this position, but also for the individuals who fill the Speaker’s position in our state governments where several positions will be up for grabs in the next election.

The power of the Speaker is immense. They give members permission (or deny permission) to speak on the House floor, designate members to serve as Speaker pro tempore, count and declare all votes, appoint (or block) members to committees, send (or prevent) bills to committees, as well as sign the bills and resolutions that pass in the House.

That is why Nancy Pelosi wanted that position and controlled the House as Speaker for 8 years. If the Speaker doesn’t want a bill heard or brought to the floor, they can stop it. If they don’t want someone in a position, they can stop it. And these actions are almost always hidden from the public!

When Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, could finally explain his side of the coup attempt against him, his answer was shocking. Although Texas has a Republican Super Majority (A Republican governor, and a Republican majority in both the House and the Senate) they weren’t getting anything done. That doesn’t make sense right? And yet what they could accomplish, in a heart beat, was to walk Paxton out the door, remove him from his position and stop his salary in a matter of hours—with no accusations or criminality shown. Worse, Paxton was unable to say anything in his defense. Boom—-just gone.

How? According to Paxton, it was because the TX Speaker of the House—a “Republican” has been controlled by the Democrats for years. Thus nothing is getting done—except to get him temporarily removed. Who sits in the seat of Speaker controls.

So now the seat for U.S. House Speaker is vacant. It boils down to Rep Jim Jordan (OH) and Rep Steve Scalise (LA), as Rep Kevin Hern (OK) has decided not to join the race. Donald Trump’s name was thrown in the mix, (I think just to make heads explode) but he has endorsed Jordan.

So this week, as the House is “on break” there is “sausage-making.” They aren’t off. They are talking, negotiating and maneuvering to get enough votes for the coveted position.

Note: You may want to check who holds this position in your state as well. In Oklahoma, where I live, the Speaker’s position will come open as will the top position in the Senate—the Pro Tempore in 2024. BOTH positions have been held by Republicans who blocked godly legislation that would have prevented abortion, porn in schools, etc. But because they are simply blocking bills from coming to a vote, the majority of the public never see what they are doing. We need revelation to what is happening behind the scenes!

Who sits in leadership is VERY important. We can’t vote for those positions, but our prayers can still influence it as can our phone calls to legislators.

Back to what is happening federally. The media calls the current condition in the U.S. House chaos. I don’t. I see it as an opportunity for us to pray to see a godly leaders installed. We need to see a change in the Texas’ Speaker position, as well as in Oklahoma and probably many states. We need to quit blindly accepting the “R” behind a name, because it doesn’t mean they hold true conservative values. We need to be discerning and check voting records. Actions are indicators!

Father we prayer for wisdom, insight and understanding for those in our federal and state Congresses. For happy is the man that finds wisdom and who gains understanding. In this time of change, we take this opportunity to pray for godly leaders to arise and for favor upon them that You would bless the work of their hands. We thank You that there is nothing hidden that won’t be revealed. That we can put our trust in You to shine a light on any back door dealings of corruption in which evil tries to stay hidden. Bring it to light Lord and tear off the cloak hiding leaders who claim to be one thing but their actions show something different.

Help us not to fall for slick speeches and charisma that tickle our ears to support politicians who say the right things, but don’t do them. Help us to be a discerning people to follow after the promptings of the Spirit and show us how to diligently research to find out what those running for office have voted for and what their actions really prove. Help us know the truth from a lie. We pray that people will seek and vote character over charisma.

We pray now for all of our legislators in both state and federal offices. Give them discernment. Help them to stand for truth and give them courage to align with good not evil. EVEN if it will cost them politically, give them courage to stand against evil alignments. We pray that as they do, You would reward them with favor.

May they know that as they stand for righteousness, that their enemies will be turned back. Show them that You are for them.

As Your Remnant we stand in the gap for our city, county, state and federal governments and those who fill those positions. We pray that every single one who will not bow their knee to You, who are puffed up by pride and thus following deception, who say one thing but do another, will be removed from their office. We declare that the position of Speaker of the House be filled by one who is Your choice to follow Your ways. We pray as these positions open in our state governments that the ungodly liars would be exposed and removed for those who fear You. All across our nation and the globe we cry out to you for godly leaders to replace those who fear man and bow to bribes and manipulation. We admonish them, Jehoshaphat did when he appointed good judges. We declare: “Let the fear of the Lord be upon you. Be careful what you do, for the Lord our God will have no part in unrighteousness, or partiality, or the taking of a bribe. Do not judge (or legislate) for man, but for the Lord who is with you.

Prayer for Israel

We are also told to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. They need our prayers. Mixed messages are coming out of the Biden Administration. But the good news is that Secretary Blinken, with the Dept of Defense, has released the following statement from America (after Biden retracted his). Would you declare it with me today as we pray for God’s protection over Israel? “We declare that America stands in solidarity with the government and people of Israel and extend our condolences for the Israeli lives lost in these attacks. We will remain in close contact with our Israeli partners and declare the United States support of Israel’s right to defend herself.”
