We are in a time in which we are to contend for the promise and prophetic destiny. What does that mean?

Contending is prayer and action. While it includes intercession—it goes further. It is when we know we are to press in and with the resilience to continue until we break something off. The word “contend” means to strive in opposition to something. In the biblical story of Esau and Jacob, they both had to contend for their destiny. But the action each had to take was completely different. They both had a promise over their lives, but it absolutely would not have been fulfilled until they came to the place of contending for it. (Click here to read “How to Contend for Prophetic Destiny.”)

Are you ready to contend? I’m personally contending for America to return to God, for my family, and for friends who are in a desperate situation. I’m contending for breakthrough and like Jacob, who wrestled with the angel and refused to let go until he received a blessing, I refuse to let go until I see the breakthrough. Some of what I’m contending for will absolutely take a miracle to see breakthrough—which is why we contend. I sense there is an anointing right now to contend.

What are you contending for? I mean really ready to see the yoke broken off? I encourage you to pray and then write down what you sense has been stolen/taken and you are ready to get back or break off the yoke. Then, truly CONTEND to see that breakthrough to receive that which has been promised to you.

Father, we come together as a prayer family, the citybycity prayer network, to contend for destiny. We contend first for America and for her destiny to be a nation that would follow after You. In the natural we are still a divided nation. But You see unity. You see what we can be. There are many angry at the outcome of the election. We ask that the rage be replaced with Truth and the peace of God. There are numerous elected officials working to circumvent the election. We pray that their eyes will be opened, the they will repent and turn or that full exposure will come along with the penalty it deserves.

We also pray for those who don’t recognize the dire situation America is in. We CONTEND now for our nation to return to You. We are grateful for Your mercy and that Donald Trump won. Now we pray for those nominated to his cabinet and other positions, that they will not be thwarted by those intent on preventing a return to our Constitution and to biblical values. We declare You can make a way where there is no way, a roadway in the wilderness and a river in the desert, for the right people to be approved for his Cabinet.

We pray and contend for our families to unite together with You as the head. Where we have trained up our children in the way they should go, we declare that they will not depart from it. Prepare our hearts to see Your Word and Your ways and to do it. That they will love You with all their heart, soul, mind and strength and their neighbors as themselves. As they do it will completely transform their lives and our family. That where any of us have erred in mind we would know the truth and where we have criticized and complained we would receive instruction. That the Light of Your Word would obliterate the lies and darkness and restore our family unity.

Lord we contend for Your promises in our lives and in our nation. We will not be moved by what we can see or don’t see, but keep our eyes fixed on You and contend for their destiny.

We know we are in a precarious season. We have won victory, but we have not yet won the war. We will not give up. We will not back off. We contend for Your promises and for our nation and our families. We declare that we will see Your plans and purposes revealed in our nation and lives. You have not brought this nation to the point of (re)birth and then not deliver it! And so we contend for America’s rebirth, for our family’s rebirth, for the rebirth of the dreams you gave us that have seemed to drift away and like Jacob we contend to breakthrough.
